Infant Mortality Rate
Definition:
It is defined as the number of registered deaths of infants per 1000 registered births of a specified area during a specified period of time, usually a year.
At present IMR in Bangladesh are 59.02 deaths/1000 live births (2009 estimate). IMR is a way of measuring
overall health status of a population as it is sensitive to socioeconomic changes and to health care facility of

Child (Under-5) Mortality Rate (U-5 MR)
Definition:
It is defined as the number of deaths of under-5 children per 1000 live births in a year.
[According to MDG-4, the goal of government of Bangladesh is to reduce under-5 mortality rate from 151 deaths per 1000 live births in 1990 to 50 (i.e. to reduce two-thirds) by 2015]

Survival rate:
It is the proportion of survivors in a group of patients studied and followed over a period of time. It is a method of describing prognosis in certain disease conditions (e.g., cancer) to assess the standards of therapy.
