Definition of Motivation
Definition:
Motivation is an inner force which drives an individual to do a certain action. Without motivation, behavioural changes cannot take place. Motivation is of two types –
Intrinsic –
Intrinsic motivation refers to motivation that is driven by an interest or enjoyment in the task itself, and exists within the individual rather than relying on any external pressure. It is sually associated with high educational achievement.
Extrinsic –
Extrinsic motivation comes from outside of the individual. Examples are money and grades, coercion and threat of punishment.
Objective of motivation:
1. To improve commitment
2. To improve participation
3. To improve performance
Methods of motivation:
Motivation by objectives:
People have personal work and organization centered goal; self set objectives achieve greater commitment.
Motivation by challenge:
People normally need and want to be stretched, but encouragement and support are vital along the .
Motivation by leadership:
It is the art of getting things done to the satisfaction of the group members.

Motivation by participation:
People like to be consulted and feel as part of the decision making process.
Motivation by competition:
A healthy spirit of competition makes for better team working.
Motivation by empathy:
Managers need to show their understanding of people as people.
Motivation by change:
To change a person’s attitude, manager must change attitude towards employee.
How to motivate the village people against AIDS:
1. To make aware the villagers about the emergence of the disease. e
2. Imparting knowledge about the disease (AIDS), its severity and mode of transmission.
3. Selecting the target population: Groups of community leaders, such as, village chairman, union parishad Jolly members, Imams, teachers etc. and groups of parents.
4. Giving knowledge to community leaders about the importance of practicing and motivating the peoples
to safe sex practice.
5. Giving knowledge to parents of adolescent children about safe sex and importance of share with their youngsters.
6. Imparting knowledge to high risk groups about importance to comply with religious rules.
7. Advocacy to the policy makers regarding the inclusion of STD and its prevention in the academic curriculum.
