Definition of Leadership

Leader:

Leaders are ‘those members of a group who influence the voluntary behaviour of their o fellows in a stated direction.

Leadership:

It means organizing a group of people to achieve a common goal.

Types of leader/leadership:

Autocratic leader –

The leader makes policy decisions and issues orders without consulting the group. The leader does not consider it necessary to keep the other members of his team informed about the objectives and the goal.

Democratic leader –

The leader makes consultation with the group during implementing decisions.

Free rein leadership –

In this type of leadership, the leader does not lead, does not participate in group dynamics and leaves the group entirely to itself.

Difference between autocratic and democratic leader:

Autocratic leader

1. The leader makes policy decisions and issues orders whitout consulting the group.

2. Does not consider it necessary to keep the other members of his team informed about the objectives and the goal.

3. The leader takes the credit and puts the blame on the subordinates

4. The leader generally keeps him aloof from the group,

Democratic leader

1. The leader makes consultation with the group during implementing decisions.

2. Keeps the group members fully aware about the objectives and strategies about the plan

3. Participates in group discussion and share with subordinates either credit or blame..
4. Not so concrete.

Quality of good leader/Leadership qualities:

1. Should be technically competent and have interpersonal skills
2. Should be capable of making quick decisions in spite of unstructured system.

3. Should be able to give clear instructions and distribute workload appropriately no siteslovnot

4. Should be fair, objective, tolerant and ability to think beyond the known track.

5. Gives credit where it is due
6. Accepts responsibility for action by the team

7. Is approachable, available and accessible
8. Sets good example

Bad qualities of a leader:

1. Technically incompetent and poor interpersonal skill

2. Not capable of making quick decisions in face of unstructured system
3. Unable to give clear instructions and distribute workload
4. Unfair, intolerant and unable to think beyond known track.

5. Doesn’t give credit where it is due
6. Don’t accepts responsibility for action by the team
7. Inapproachable, unavailable and poor accessible
