Human Gender

Gender is recognized as a term that reflects the complex social relations between men and women. A fact of realization is that stabilization of population and development of healthy children into healthy adults cannot be achieved until the status of women is improved.
Gender based violence:
Violence against women has been called ‘the most pervasive yet least recognized human rights abuse in the world’.
It encompasses a wide range of human rights violations, including sexual abuse of children, rape, domestic violence, sexual assault and harassment, trafficking of women and girls and several harmful traditional practices.
Any one of these abuses can leave deep psychological scars, damage the health of women and girls in general, including their reproductive and sexual health, and in some instances, results in death.
Strategies to check and control gender issues:
Empowerment of women.

Enhancement of men’s responsibility:
Encourages men-
- To assume responsibility on birth control and unwanted pregnancies.
- To assume responsible sexual behavior.
- To share responsibility in child rearing care, housework.
- Facilities for promotion of gender equality and mutual respect.
Information and education –
- To men and women so that they are able to exert control of their bodies.
- To enable women to understand the changes within themselves and their bodies as they pass through various phases of the reproductive cycle.
Wider prospects –
Adopting range of services to include contraception, infertility, breast- feeding, STDs/STIS, reproductive tract infections, HIV/AIDS, cancer screening and violence against women.

Reaching out to men –
Package of interventions to reach out to men – family planning for men, STIS, HIV/AIDS education and infertility.
