The practice of modern medicine has become a joint effort of many groups of workers, both medical and non-medical, that is, physicians, HAS, TBAS, nurses, FWVs, social workers and a host of others. 

The hospital team is different from the team that works in the community. Whether it is a hospital team or community health work team, it is important for each team member to have a specific and recognized function in the team and to have freedom to exercise his particular skills.

Definition of health team:

It is a group of persons who share a common health goal and objectives. determined by community needs and toward the achievement of which each member of the team contributes in accordance with his/her competence and skills and respecting the functions of the others.

Composition of Health Team:

  1. A team leader – Who guides and supervise the team 
  2. Health professionals 
  3. Auxiliaries Who has less than full professional qualifications supervised by a professional worker
  4. Ancillary – Carrier, driver, messenger, guard, bearer etc.

Criteria of a health team:

  1. A health team is composed of health professionals, auxiliaries and other supportive members. 
  2. Health team is guided and supervised by a team leader. 
  3. For the proper functioning of the health team it is important for each team member to have specific job description; the channel of communication and the line of authority should be clearly understood by the team members.

 

Concept of health team

 

  1. The health team concept should be applicable to the PHC level.
